Individual counselling

Scroll

"I have over 20 years' experience offering individual counselling sessions. Individual counselling offers you a safe, supportive, confidential space to examine whatever difficulties you are facing, and to explore your thoughts and feelings. Through listening non-judgmentally to you, my role is to enable you to better understand your thoughts, feelings, patterns and experiences, and to support you to find a way to move forwards.”

These are some of the common problems I work with:

    • identity issues- including becoming a new mum
    • post-natal issues
    • baby loss
    • birth trauma
    • relationship difficulties- with partners, children, parents, family, friends
    • anxiety
    • depression
    • stress
    • low self-esteem
    • spirituality or faith issues
    • loss or bereavement
    • abuse

What is my counselling approach?

I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the University of Greenwich, London. This means that I work from a 'toolkit' of counselling theories and perspectives, including Psychodynamic, Humanistic and CBT approaches. I am a qualified EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapist and have substantial training and experience in working with trauma, and have worked for 15 years in specialist services for survivors of abuse. Furthermore, I include mindfulness, psychoeducation and bodywork approaches into my approach.

Session details

I offer weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes which will continue for an agreed period. I work on both a short-term, and an open-ended basis.

First steps

There will be an Initial Assessment where you will;

          • Have an opportunity to ask questions about what I can offer and whether you feel us working together would be right for you
          • Outline what has brought you to counselling, and what you hope to gain
          • Agree a number of weekly sessions, and a regular time to review the counselling
          • Assess your needs

Where do sessions take place?

I use a comfortable and private consulting room in Hove which is convenient for bus and train routes, and there is paid parking nearby.

How much will it cost?

£75 per session (50 minutes)
Please note- some EMDR processing sessions may last longer. This will be discussed with you in advance, and the additional session time charged pro-rata.

Sometimes it can be helpful to chat on the phone before booking a first session. I am happy to offer a free initial consultation for 10-15 minutes to discuss your needs.
